Grapefruit + Lavender Detox Bath

If you are feeling sluggish, tense or like you need a healthy reset, a detox bath may be just what you need! A Grapefruit + Lavender Detox Bath has healing components for your muscles, skin and overall health.

We are exposed to toxins from the environment, the food we eat, the skincare products we use and the medicine we take. There are many ways to help remove toxins from the body, but this steamy, relaxing bath is my all time favorite.

This Grapefruit + Lavender Detox Bath gently soothes your body, relaxes your muscles and calms your mind. It feels like you are literately washing away stress and tension.

So, gather up these four ingredients and create a healthy weekly detox bath ritual!

The Ingredients

There are 4 ingredients to this Grapefruit + Lavender Detox Bath: Epsom Salt, Baking Soda, Lavender Essential Oil and Grapefruit. It is important when trying this detox bath to use trusted non-toxic products to in order to cleanse your body from toxins.

EPSOM SALT

Epsom salt contains magnesium and sulfate both which work together to draw out toxins.  This salt has been used for over 400 years after if was discovered by a farmer in England who realized his well water contained a mineral, now known as Epsom, that helped cure cuts and rashes.

Epsom salt baths increase the levels of magnesium in the body and therefore, draws out lactic acid.  This process helps with muscle recovery and muscle relaxation as well as reducing inflammation.

BAKING SODA

Baking soda or sodium bicarbonate, aids in the removal of bacteria and acidity in the body. Its properties can help regulate ph levels that have been knocked out of balance from consuming acidic foods. To learn more about the damaging effects of acidity in the body you can click here.

LAVENDER

The third ingredient is an organic essential oil. I recommend trying lavender essential oil for its soothing and relaxing effects.

GRAPEFRUIT

Last, grapefruit is packed with vitamin C and can help eliminate free radicals in your body. This citrus fruit contains natural acids that help remove dead skin cells and promote healthy skin cell turn over.

Ingredients

1/2 cup of Epsom salt

1/2 cup of baking soda

10 drops of organic lavender essential oil

Grapefruit sliced into wheels

Instructions

  • Draw a warm bath and while the water is running pour in the Epsom salt, baking soda, lavender essential oil and grapefruit wheels.
  • Soak, relax and enjoy the calming and healing benefits of the Grapefruit + Lavender Detox Bath for 20 mins. If the water temperature gets too hot, be sure to add some cooler water in to adjust the temperature to a warm and comfortable level. If the bath water is too hot it could lead to dizziness.
  • Once you are done bathing, drain the water and rinse off with clean water to remove any remaining toxins or dead skin cells from your body.

Things to Consider

  • Since one of the goals is to relax, I encourage you to leave your cell phones and other distractions outside of the bathroom.
  • You can dim the bathroom lights or light a candle to set the mood.
  • Be sure to drink plenty of water during and after the bath.
  • I recommend not eating right before or after the bath. It is possible this bath could stimulate the removal of toxins via bowel movement.
  • When your bath is complete, rinse off with clean cool water to remove toxins from the body.
  • After you are dried off try moisturizing with organic non-toxic jojoba oil post bath. (You do not want to add more toxins to your body by applying non-organic lotions to open pores after the detox bath.)

Health Concerns

If you have health concerns you should always check with your Dr. before trying this detox bath. You should not try this bath if you are pregnant.
