10 Healthy Snacks for Kids (Clean, Simple Ingredients, Mom’s Love)

We’re so lucky to have a wide variety of health snack options available for our kids today. With many conventional children’s snacks containing artificial dyes, preservatives, added sugars, seed oils, and other questionable ingredients—it’s clear we can do better.

If reading food labels feels overwhelming or you’re unsure which ingredients to avoid, I’ve got you covered. I’ve carefully vetted this list of 10 healthy snacks for kids made with clean, simple ingredients. And honestly? I snack on these too!

Solely – Fruit Chews + Fruit Jerky

Solely fruit snacks are made with 100% organic fruit and no added ingredients. They’re a big win in our house because we love the flavors. My son’s favorites are mango & orange and mango & guava, while I love the mango & raspberry and mango & blueberry fruit jerky (which he happily shares).

Whole Foods 365 – Organic Fruit Strips

These fruit strips are another healthy snack option for kids made with 100% organic fruit. You can buy them individually or in a 30-pack. Kids love variety—even with similar ingredients—so these are great for keeping lunches fun while adding extra fruit without added sugar or unnecessary additives.

BEAR – Fruit Rolls

BEAR Fruit Rolls are another great fruit-based snack made with 100% non-GMO fruit and no added sugar. They’re a much cleaner alternative to options like Fruit by the Foot, which contain added sugars, corn syrup, food dyes, and other processed ingredients.

Boulder Canyon – Canyon Poppers

Did you grow up eating cheese balls? I definitely did. I was so excited to discover Boulder Canyon Poppers—they use avocado oil instead of seed oils, are non-GMO, and taste amazing.

Once Upon a Farm – Organic Soft Baked Bar
Finding a kid-friendly bar without seed oils or added sugar isn’t easy. These soft-baked bars are organic and made with whole grain oats, fruits, and vegetables. We love the Apple & Oat and Mixed Berry flavors and buy them on repeat.

Stonyfield – Organic Yogurt Pouches

We love Stonyfield Organic Yogurt pouches because they’re organic, include fruits and vegetables, and are lower in sugar (with a zero sugar option available). Sometimes my son eats two in a day!

Chomps – Chomplings Sea Salt Beef Mini Sticks + Organic Valley Grassfed Sharp Cheddar Cheese + Mary’s Gone Crackers

Chomps Chomplings are made with grass-fed, grass-finished beef and are non-GMO. Pair them with Organic Valley grass-fed sharp cheddar cheese and Mary’s Gone Crackers (Original) for a balanced snack. I like to cut up the cheese and beef sticks and serve them with crackers in this snack container for school or on-the-go.

Lesser Evil – Himalayan Gold Popcorn

Snacks made without seed oils can be hard to find, which is why I love LesserEvil popcorn. It’s organic, made with simple ingredients, and perfect for lunchboxes or on-the-go snacks.

Unreal – Dark Chocolate Coconut Bars

Kids love chocolate, but it doesn’t have to be loaded with unnecessary ingredients. UNREAL snacks are non-GMO and made with cleaner ingredients. The Dark Chocolate Coconut Bars have just 3 grams of added sugar.

UnrealDark Chocolate Covered Pretzels

These are another healthy snack option for kids with a little bit of dark chocolate!  They taste so good, and they don’t have any seed oils! My son loves getting a few of these in his lunch box!

What are the healthiest snacks for kids?

The healthiest snacks for kids are made with simple, whole food ingredients and minimal processing. Look for options without artificial dyes, preservatives, added sugars, and seed oils. Snacks made from fruit, whole grains, and high-quality proteins are great choices.

What snacks should kids avoid?

It’s best to eliminate snacks that contain artificial food dyes, high-fructose corn syrup, hydrogenated oils, and long ingredient lists with hard-to-pronounce additives. Many conventional packaged snacks fall into this category.

Are store-bought snacks okay for kids?

Yes—store-bought snacks can absolutely be part of a healthy diet when you choose brands that use clean, simple ingredients. There are many convenient options available today that are both nutritious and kid approved.

What are good school snacks that aren’t messy?

Great mess-free options include fruit strips, soft-baked bars, popcorn, beef sticks, crackers, and yogurt pouches. These are easy to pack, quick to eat, and perfect for school lunches

How can I tell if a snack is truly healthy?

Start by reading the ingredient list. Look for recognizable, whole food ingredients and avoid products with added sugars, artificial flavors, and preservatives. A shorter ingredient list is usually a good sign.

Are fruit snacks healthy for kids?

Some are! Fruit snacks made with 100% real fruit and no added sugar can be a healthy option. However, many popular brands contain added sugars and artificial ingredients, so it’s important to check labels.

What are healthy snacks for picky eaters?

For picky eaters, focus on familiar textures and flavors—like fruit strips, popcorn, yogurt pouches, and cheese with crackers. Offering variety while keeping ingredients simple can help expand their preferences over time.

Once you have a family, finding ways to improve health becomes so important. Being more aware of food choices and changing your child’s diet can have an incredible impact on their overall health and well-being! Knowing you don’t have to eliminate snacks, but rather seek healthier alternatives, is powerful.
