Natural Remedies for Teething Babies

Hi parents out there with teething babies! Moving teeth can be super uncomfortable for your little one however, this doesn’t mean that meds are needed to get your infant through the discomfort. Fortunately, there are many natural remedies for teething babies that are safe alternatives!

As a first time mom, I was’t prepared when Louis started getting his two bottom teeth at almost 6 months old. We were in the middle of sleep training and of course the timing was less than ideal. Since babies teeth for up to three years, there really is never an ideal time.

Signs of teething include lots of drooling, ear pulling from referred pain, red cheeks and lots of extra crankiness.

I wasn’t sure what to use or how to remedy my little guy’s pain. I decided to consult with my baby’s pediatrician. I asked about Tylenol and I was surprised to learn that it is hard on babies’ livers and is bad for their immune system. The Dr told us to use it very sparingly if at all. I am a big fan of putting the most organic and natural things in my body and limiting medicine therefore,  I wanted to make sure to do the same for Louis especially since he is only a baby.

I wanted to find a more natural remedy to help ease some of my little one’s discomfort so, I did some research and tested out some different products. I came across a brand called Mommy’s Bliss. They have a two pack of organic daytime and night time soothing gel so I thought I’d give it a try.

The great thing about this product is that you can put the gel in the fridge to get it nice and cold and then you apply it with a clean finger on your baby’s gums or you can apply it using a finger teether. I found that applying the cold soothing gel on the finger teether helped lessen some of the inflammation Louis experienced. He really loved gnawing on the massage bristles! As babies get several top and bottom teeth you won’t be able to continue using the finger teethers because those bites start to hurt! A two pack costs less than $10 and I found we got a lot of use out of them.

Another natural teething remedy that continues to help Louis at 1 year old, is putting frozen breastmilk or formula ice cubes, made with a tiny ice cube tray or frozen mango pieces in a mesh teething bag. When Louis started eating solids we switched tp using the organic frozen mango pieces instead of breastmilk because it was a nice treat in addition to its soothing effects.

I also bought Louis a few different teething toys. Having a variation is important because they hit different areas of his mouth. You can put them in the freezer to chill them as well. These are some of his favorites.

Last, with all that extra drool you will definitely need a ton of cute little bibs! I love these scarf bibs because they wrap close the neck and catch the drool well plus they look adorable!

My last tip to note is that when your baby is teething he typically needs extra love and affection because he just doesn’t feel well. Nothing is better than the soothing touch of the baby’s parent! Sometimes your little one may need you to break sleep training guidelines during the really tough days. The cry it out method is not so good when you baby just needs comfort. I like to mention this as a reminder to be extra loving as it can be difficult for your infant to nap well when they are in pain.

I hope you will find some of these organic and natural baby teething remedies helpful for your little one!!
